Persimmons + Cardamom
I woke up in a different city and state this morning.
Same time zone,
though daylight savings just happened so I am thoroughly disoriented
I dreamt I was walking home with friends
Laughing so heartily
so hard I slid across an entire street,
body useless in hilarity
Children were setting off fireworks near a dry field and
a boy was buried to the neck in cement
We got home and at the base of the stairs a woman sat in the bathtub
entirely naked her pregnant belly covered in
lush dark curls
Her son’s head
She pet and stroked the resting child
A room full of her family and me trying to step
in cracks between bodies
the spaces left
Limbs packed tightly
lovingly against bellies and backs
Still laughing working hard to keep the quiet
in this new and special place
I made it through the room
through the puzzle
I woke up in white sheets
white walls
Yellow quilt
saffron or dandelion
or rich late summer sun
A happy yellow
The quality of light coming through the crack in the blinds
is blue
I woke up thinking of persimmons
shaking the fall fruit from a bottle
Persimmon and cardamom
a pudding, pie or galette.
